“Direction of Light”

Ithra, Dhahran, Saudi Arabia


A 3-week immersive tape installation at the King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture, transforming an escalator passage into a spatial illusion of flowing lines and emergent depth. Created as part of Ithra’s Seeing and Perceiving exhibition, this piece blended art and science, prompting viewers to reflect on how we see and how we think we see

"Soundwave"

The Other Art Fair, Magic Box, Los Angeles, CA


Commissioned for the entryway of The Other Art Fair in 2018, Darel Carey’s Soundwave transformed a blank wall into a pulsing optical field of emergent motion. Using only straight tape lines, the piece evoked the rhythm and flow of a living soundwave — welcoming visitors into a dynamic world of perception and transformation.

Thinkspace 20 Year Anniversary Show

Brand Library, Glendale, CA


Presented at the Brand Library Art Center in 2025, this group exhibition curated by Thinkspace celebrates two decades of boundary-pushing contemporary art. Darel Carey contributed a new dimensional tape installation, continuing his exploration of emergent form and optical space.

“Spatial Redshift”

Lux Art Institute, Encinitas, CA


Presented as a solo exhibition at Lux Art Institute in 2019, Spatial Redshift explored the emergence of dimensional illusions through immersive tape installations. Using straight lines to create flowing topographies, Darel Carey transformed architectural surfaces into dynamic, bending environments inviting viewers to experience perception as an evolving, organic phenomenon.

Tesla Model Y

A custom tape installation transforming the Tesla Model Y into a moving optical illusion. Created for the Tesla Takeover event, this piece showcases Darel Carey’s signature freehand linework, turning the vehicle into a dynamic canvas of flowing patterns.

Equinox High Line, New York


A dual project blending physical and digital mediums: Darel Carey transformed the windows overlooking New York’s High Line with a flowing tape installation, while also creating a custom digital design for Equinox’s yoga mats — bringing movement and perception shifts to a luxury fitness environment.

CAPS Mural Festival

Clichy, Paris, France


As part of the 2022 CAPS Mural Festival, Darel Carey brought his signature perception-bending linework to the streets of Paris. Installed in the suburb of Clichy, his mural invited public interaction with space and illusion — translating his optical art into a vibrant urban environment on an international stage.

Curated by Hi-Fructose Magazine, this 2024 group exhibition brought together artists exploring the power of the line. Darel Carey’s contribution demonstrated how simple linear repetition can create immersive visual depth, highlighting his signature balance between illusion and emergence.

Museum of Selfies

Los Angeles, CA
A fully immersive tape installation created for the Museum of Selfies in LA, Darel Carey’s contribution transformed the walls and floor into a flowing, perception-bending optical space. Designed for social media engagement and visual interaction, the work combined complexity and simplicity — using hand-laid tape to make flat surfaces appear curved, layered, and alive.

In the 2024 edition of TAM’s Studio System, Darel Carey presented new work that expanded his optical vocabulary through emerging patterns and perceptual shifts. This group exhibition spotlighted innovative artists redefining studio practices in Southern California’s contemporary art scene.

Inglewood Open Studios, CA

Presented during the 11th Annual Inglewood Open Studios in 2017, this immersive work marked a pivotal moment in Darel’s rise. Installed inside the historic Beacon Arts Building, the piece showcased his signature illusion-based tape technique — transforming walls into flowing, dimensional surfaces that challenged perception and orientation.

Meta – Oculus HQ Mural (BUR102)

Burlingame, CA
Commissioned by Meta Open Arts, this 3-week installation transformed a central wall of the Oculus HQ (BUR102) into an immersive visual experience

Girard-Perregaux

Digital Art & Animation (Global Campaign)


In collaboration with Swiss luxury watchmaker Girard-Perregaux, Darel Carey designed a series of digital animations and stills that merge precision and perception. Using his signature flowing linework and dimensional emergence, the visuals brought movement and depth to the brand’s high-end digital advertising — showcasing the fusion of fine art and horological craft.

"Topographical Space No. 1"

Senior Show at Otis College of Art and Design, Los Angeles, CA


Created as part of Darel Carey’s Senior Show at Otis College of Art and Design, Topographical Space No. 1 marked his first full exploration into immersive tape installations at an architectural scale. Using precise, freehand lines to transform the surrounding space, this early work laid the foundation for Darel’s signature style blending perception, dimensionality, and emergent complexity through the simplicity of straight lines

Independent Installation, California


Building upon his early exploration of immersive perception through tape, Topographical Space No. 3 continued Darel Carey’s organic development of dimensionalization techniques. Straight lines were freehand applied to walls and surfaces, creating complex emergent curves and spatial distortions — pushing forward the minimalist yet highly complex language that defines his later work
